This unique city monument, originally a winter residence, was built in the 18th century and has been in private hands ever since. At first a property of count dhaene steenhuyse, it passed in 1766 to the hands of bernard antoine triest. The triest couple, who bought the premises in 1766, did a lot of finishing work and brought in a lot of sophistication. Under their control some essential work to the front of the dwelling was done. The inside was enriched with well known wall paintings from pierre norbert van reysschot, which are still in place today. The mansion is listed as "hotel verhaegen lammens", after the illustrious baron verhaegen.

His family owned it for more than 150 years, and handed it to the present day owners, the inside decorators jan rosseel and marc vergauwe. Their interest in the magic of the elderly days and the respect for the past, combined with an artistic touch and an incredible eye for detail, created a effect which can't be expressed with words.
